Full Circle recently invited friends and fellow artists into the studio for an informal showing of several works in progress, with opportunities for audience feedback and sharing of ideas. Artistic Director Donna L. Jacobs shared an excerpt from her new work that considers the role of both harmful and healing rituals in mental health. The audience responded with encouragement, shared personal stories, and asked probing questions. "It was so helpful to have this direct input so early in the process," Jacobs said. "I feel affirmed about my path, and I am anxious to continue work. Clearly this subject resonates with many."

Choreographer Hope B. Byers engaged the audience with a challenging quiz before revealing the subject of her new work--the automobile as a source of both freedom and risk for African Americans. She showed a narrow slice of the complex and layered work she is building, and the excerpt prompted valuable discussion. "Receiving positive feedback was reassuring that I am on the right track," Byers said. "I chose to present an excerpt that focused on the joyful side of the history. One guest said she looked forward to seeing how the piece would also challenge the audience with the heavy aspects of the story, since the joyful side was so powerful. That was truly gratifying to hear."

Guests were also treated to a performance of Radicant, a stunning solo by Full Circle dancer and choreographer Josette Chang, and to the rousing finale of a signature work--Travis D. Gatling's Sin Shakers and Shouters

"Bringing together artists from different disciplines and friends of Full Circle in an informal setting helps spark creativity and opens up the creative process," Jacobs said. "Stay tuned for more free opportunities to join us on Full Circle's 2026 artistic journey."
